Resplendent Beauty: On Cantonese Opera Repertoire and Costumes Exhibition

The exhibition features authentic costumes and stage sets of four well-known Cantonese operas to reflect the wide spectrum of plots, scenes and roles of the art form. Visitors will discover the beauty of these artefacts and interact with multimedia presentations in the Library and the Foyer of Shaw Auditorium.

Cantonese Opera Education Enrichment Project 2022-2023

In September 2022, the Cantonese Opera Education Enrichment Project invited Yemina Chung to introduce and demonstrate make-up, costume and props in Cantonese Opera. A series of workshops were held in October for participants to learn basic Cantonese Opera singing and acting.

Animators’ Roundtable Forum:
Hong Kong Animation

This roundtable forum will discuss animated filmmaking in Hong Kong, past, present, and future, from the insider perspectives of these animators who have left their footprints in history of Hong Kong animation. They will discuss a diverse range of topics, including the history and heritage of Hong Kong animation, independent animation, commercial animation, experimental and abstract animation, and animation education. They will also share hidden histories and names never disclosed to the public, rarely seen animated films and photos, as well as their dreams, struggles, joys, regrets, and pains along the journey.

非遺種子計劃 - 嘆歌工作坊
Seed for ICH - Fishermen Laments Workshops

「嘆歌」是香港水上居民傳承的歌謠,亦是生命禮儀中的基本元素。在傳統婚嫁儀式中,新娘與家人透過嘆歌互訴離情,並且唱出婚姻所帶來的社會責任與親屬 關係。在傳統喪葬儀式中,嘆唱者訴說親人離世之苦,更將喪葬儀式的場景及過程,以嘆唱的方式告訴死者。嘆歌旋律簡單,有相對固定的歌詞,但歌者可以配合現場環境,即興調整與創作。 

本活動邀請到黎帶金女士作為導師,帶領一共五節工作坊,期望參加者在過程中瞭解嘆歌傳統,學習嘆唱技巧。

HKUST ARTS FESTIVAL 2021 -
The Splendours of Italian and German Baroque Music by Concerto da Camera 

The local chamber music ensemble Concerto da Camera will present a series of online mini-concerts through the six consecutive weeks. In the concerts, we will hear many variegated masterpieces of the Italian and German Baroque periods. 

Founded in 2004, Concerto da Camera has brought unique, innovative chamber music and arts programs to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Its programming strives to increase public interest in classical music, and to foster arts and culture.

Cosmopolis Festival
都會音樂節 

Hong Kong is a major cultural hub, regularly visited by the most renowned performers from all over the world, and the range of local cultures and talent is equally broad. Cosmopolis aims to introduce audiences to music from a cross section of cultural, linguistic, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, representing traditions such as Indian classical music, Indonesian gamelan, Filipino jazz, Chinese orchestral repertoire, chamber music, as well as avant-garde, experimental, and multimedia works.

There are different ways to listen to and appreciate music. One of those is by comparing different genres of arts, e.g. painting, architecture and literature, within the same period, in order to materialize this most abstract form of arts. Besides hearing, this allows us to see, and even touch the compositions and eventually learn about the underlying meaning.

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2018 - MY HEART IS FLYING: PAINTINGS BY CHEN KENG


The Artist-in-Residence project 2018 invited renowned artist from Guangzhou, Mr Chen Keng (陳鏗), to create a series of artworks on the theme of “Flying”, and guide students to reflect on the scientific and cultural implications of human fantasies and achievements in this area through an exhibition, workshop, talks and demonstration.
